GARAGE DOORS

Mark Hawkins (garage door specialist) has agreed to come and inspect the garage doors, and make the necessary repairs to bring them into a sound operating condition. The cost will be $25 for each unit, plus the cost of any parts that have to be replaced. For this program to proceed, we do need a minimum of 10 units to sign up so it can all be done in one visit. We have picked Wednesday, June 22 for this service to be done.

Please contact Jim Duggan if you want to participate.

Community and Social Events

Our annual outdoor picnic and social event has been held in late August for many years. But this date is flexible. We simply need to be confident that temperatures will likely be warm enough to enjoy the outdoors.  If you would be willing to host the event at your unit this year please contact Allan either by telephone or by email. We have supplies, equipment and a binder with information to help you plan the party. There are also many remarkable volunteers who would be happy to contribute to your party’s success!  This is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbours.

Villa Volunteers

Last month I proposed the idea of establishing a group of Villa Volunteers who would be willing to assist other residents with simple tasks they may find difficult or no longer be able to perform.  From time to time each of us requires support from others and sometimes that support must be provided by the community.  I’m happy to report that not only did I receive emails from willing volunteers but I also discovered that a lot of this help has already been going on between many of you. But the newer residents may not have established the neighbourhood connections to feel comfortable asking for help when they need it. Our Villa Volunteers watch out for one other and can anticipate needs as they arise. If you would be willing to help a neighbour please contact Allan describing what you would be willing to help with.  Or if you have a task that you require help with also contact Allan to connect with a willing Villa Volunteer.

Thanks to so Many

We need to acknowledge all the willing workers who keep our Villas looking so good and our systems functioning for the benefit of all. We have to sincerely thank Gerry Janecke, Barry Docherty, Garry Magee, and Jim Lees for getting our sprinkler system out of hibernation in such short order this year. Certainly our grass and trees have enjoyed the water. Also a big thank you has to go out to Jake Hiebert, who together with Jim Lees and Gary Watson took peeling house numbers off, scoured them clean of flaky paint and had them refinished. Volunteers Bill Schultz, Dennis Chen and Roy Pollyck were involved in respraying the house numbers. They look stunning. Thanks to Garry Magee and Dick Shannon for doing the pavement repairs. Finally, we have all noticed and appreciated the efforts of Dick Shannon and Steve Hardy who together rebuilt and refinished the bulletin board, the display post and the ornamental fencing by our mailboxes. These were all tasks that would have cost our corporation a considerable amount had the work been contracted out. We’re fortunate to have neighbours that show so much pride in maintaining our Villas in such a fine state.

Stage West

Come and join a few of us who enjoy going to Stage West for a Wednesday matinee dinner and performance. Couples, singles, friends, family, anyone is welcome to join us.

There are 5 performances involved:

  1. Million Dollar Quartet – music from Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley
  2. Hollywood Hits-music from “Hollywood Hits” such as Saturday Night Fever – Ghost Busters – Top Gun – Graduate, etc.
  3. Drinking Habits – comedy involving accusations, mistaken identities, and mysterious relationships run wild in this traditional, laugh-out loud farce.
  4. Rock of Ages – musical play
  5. Murder for Two -  2 performers play 13 roles and a piano in a witty and winking homage to old-fashioned murder mysteries.

Treva in unit #222 organizes season tickets for all 5 plays. The cost is $180 per person. Please make cheque out to Treva. The deadline is June 30, 2016.
